History-imageDyan's Country Kitchen is a popular neighborhood eatery blending a mix of cultures – European countryside décor with a New York deli feel. Even the menu has a variety of traditional comfort foods with Challah French toast, mouth-watering Pastrami and Matzo Ball soup to Spanakopita and Greek salad or a classic all American Philly cheese steak. It's a place where everyone knows your name and the atmosphere is welcoming and family friendly – the kind of place where you can feel comfortable to sit where you want and sip a cup of coffee while you wait for your meal.

Owner Dyan Harpest runs the restaurant as if it was her family kitchen, using fresh, quality ingredients and offering home-style cooking. She loves working in the restaurant. "I like to know everything is high quality and I want to make sure my customers are happy," she says.

A Parkland resident for 16 years, she opened Dyan's Country Kitchen in 2006, but has prior experience from her years of operating Duffy's Diner in Fort Lauderdale.

"Before Duffy's, I lived in New England and put myself through college in the industry, working since a teen. I always had a good work ethic. My mom is my inspiration with her good cooking and her positive way she lives her life. She is always teaching me, even today."

Dyan says, "We serve food that many people had growing up but with a more innovative menu and freshly prepared, with generous portions and great prices, you will always find something delicious! Our offerings of salads and lighter fare and healthy options is important to our customers, too."

Breakfast served all day is a favorite at Dyan's with jumbo Omelets, fluffy Pancakes, waffles, fish platters, Nova, fresh baked bagels and cream cheese, kids menu, fresh squeezed orange juice and great coffee. Complimentary coffee cake is set on the tables on weekends and outside patio dining is available anytime.

Lunch entrees include over-stuffed Deli Sandwiches, Salads, Wraps, ½ lb. juicy Burgers, Kosher Hot Dogs, Daily Board Specials, and Homemade Soups. The Reuben and Melts are popular choices, as is the turkey club. This huge portion seems like enough for four, with its double-decker portions, crisp bacon, lettuce and juicy tomatoes, served with a side item, such as their tangy potato salad and a crunchy pickle. They have a half a sandwich and soup special for only $6.99. Their Matzo Ball soup is comfort food in a cup or bowl, with a huge Matzo Ball, chunks of pulled chicken, carrots and celery in a delicious broth.

Dinner is served Wednesday through Saturday, with entrees you would expect at a fine dining establishment. Selections such as Chicken Francese or Marsala, Asian Sesame Crusted Salmon Filet with Ginger Sauce, New York Strip, hot open Turkey off the frame, and Spaghetti and Meatballs are some of the specialties. A complete dinner includes an entrée, two sides, salad or soup, bread, beverage and dessert for only $14.50 or $12.50 (early bird). Sugar free desserts are available.

For an on-the-go meal, the deli offers everything from sliced meats, to soups, schmears, bagels, Whitefish, Lox, Knishes, Shrimp or solid white Albacore Tuna Salad. Dyan's Country Kitchen also is a known for their Custom Catering for all your holidays and special family, office or corporate events, no matter how small or large. Delivery is also available daily with a minimum order. Currently, they are readying for the Jewish high holidays and will have all traditional offerings, such as Brisket, Carrot Tzimmes, Gefilte Fish and Noodle Kugel. Their bakery features traditional items including black and white cookies, Hamentashen, Rugelach and sugar cookies.

Dyan credits her passion, her family, and her great staff for contributing to the success of her restaurant. "I have a good core of well-trained, hard working and dedicated professionals here," she says. "You can only build a business with good people. My three daughters, Lindsey, Cara, and Christie have all been a help in the business, as their first job experience. My husband, Robert, (when not working in the auto industry which he has been for 30 years), is behind the scenes helping too." A step son, Rob, lives in Los Angeles.

"I am a mom first. I could not have done this when they were little," says Dyan, who is thinking now of opening a second location.

As a business owner, Dyan has given back to the community by donating to schools, sports teams and fundraisers, such as Relay for Life. One of her loyal customers is Olympic swimmer Dara Torres, whose signed picture is on the wall.
